I did this piece of writing in English 10A and I truly feel that it is the best piece that I have done this year, if not ever. Wynnie passed away in my 8th grade year, and ever since then I have wanted to write about it, but I didn't really know how. I wanted to do her justice by dedicating a piece to showcase how amazing of a young woman she was, but honestly, I didn't really think I could write this kind of thing without getting too emotional This year, I decided that it would not only make an amazingly powerful story, but would allow me to step out of my comfort zone and write something about an experience that still is hard to talk about and even think about. This piece of writing shows my skills because I not only used an abundance of description and show-not-tell, but I was also able to incorporate a lot of pathos through the emotions that I felt as I was grieving one of my best friends. Also, the way that I was able to show her life through a brownie is a move that I am very proud of because it allowed me to add some humor and light feeling to a piece that was so emotional. As I mentioned, this piece allowed me to grow as a writer, but I think it also allowed me to grow as a person by letting me allow me emotions to flow into the piece, which I still can't really read without tearing up :) |
